Job Hunting & Pandemic Fatigue – how to keep motivated

If you are feeling a bit, or even more than a bit worn down by job hunting or life in general then you are not alone! An extended feeling of living in a vacuum, wondering where the last 12 months have gone, working or living in isolation, daily anxieties  – the list goes on leading many of us to feel less motivated, irritable, tired and stressed. When living under such circumstances it is only natural to feel apathetic and demotivated so don’t beat yourself up for having these feelings. Job hunting can be stressful even during “normal” times and never more so than right now. In our latest blog, we wanted to focus on Pandemic Fatigue.

Did you know that Pandemic Fatigue is a real thing? Pandemic Fatigue is not a medical term rather a feeling many of us are experiencing following prolonged periods of uncertainty and it certainly is real! Is there anything that can be done to help? Most definitely! Stamina and acceptance are big keys to getting through. We have collated some of the best hints and tips around that could help you get through the next few months:

  • Stay at a physical distance but not a social one
  • Use your time wisely to stay positive, avoiding excessive worrying
  • Take time each day to think, breathe and catch up
  • Schedule “no screen” time during each day
  • Routines are good!
  • Adapt to the changing seasons
  • Take a break from job hunting and get some fresh air
  • Help others
  • Continue to practice COVID safe behaviour as instructed by the government

Reaching out to others socially through emails, texts, video calls are all great ways to keep safely connected right now. Finding ways to help others can make you feel better too! Focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t goes a long way to a more positive mindset. A lot of things are just right out of our control right now, you could consider taking up a new hobby, brush up on your skills and knowledge with TED talks, short courses, new qualifications – all things to keep you busy. Keeping a good routine, close to what you did pre-pandemic helps with a general feeling of happiness and sense of being “settled”. Plan to take time to exercise, working those “happy chemicals” and getting some fresh air and all important Vitamin D by going for a walk even if its cold. These are just some of the top hints and tips that could just help you to refocus your mind and take back control over your job hunt.

Job hunting is very draining but persevere, this will not last forever, believe in yourself, look after yourself – you can weather this storm! There are very encouraging signs that employers are still recruiting so please follow our Linkedin page to keep up to date with all the live vacancies along with job postings on our website.

We hope you all continue to stay safe and well during this times. Please keep practising COVID safe behaviour to protect yourself and others.
