For the second year running Xpert Resourcing was privileged to sponsor the Colleague of the Year award at the Ely Hero Awards 2019.

It was a fantastic evening of celebration, recognising some truly amazing people from Ely for their hard work, selfless acts, courage and compassion. There were inspirational stories and wonderful achievements highlighted throughout the evening proving what a fantastic community Ely is.

The Colleague of the Year award is a wonderful way to recognise people we spend much of our working hours with and who support us in our working lives.

The runner up was Amanda Shepherd, who volunteers for local Charity “Spectrum” This great charity provides support and events for families of children with Autism. Her colleagues described her as “Simply fantastic!” and “always happy and an absolute pleasure to be around”.

Our 2019 Colleague of the year winner was Mark Cornell. Mark is the farm manager at Prospects Trust which is a social enterprise set up to provide meaningful work experience for adults with various disabilities. One colleague said of Mark, “ He is the colleague that always has your back and always finds the best in you and makes you better for it”. High praise indeed and it was a real pleasure to meet Mark on Monday evening and hear about the work he does and the inspiration driving him to continue to help people.

People in Ely will soon be able to find out more about Prospects Trust and help to support their vital work by visiting their new Prospects Trust Unwrapped shop opening soon on Lynn Road. This will be a fantastic greengrocery showcasing organic and locally sourced produce. There will be no plastic wrapping or single use plastic and the shop will support those with additional needs to gain new skills.

Congratulations to Mark Cornell and we look forward to crowning another winner in 2020!
